Sony Taste

UX/UI DESIGN | RESEARCH

Background
For the launch of their new Xperia smartphone, Sony asked us to create a narrative short film that would leverage the phone's pro camera and built-in filmmaking tools. This materialled into a story of a futuristic chef traveling the world in search of new flavors.  Within the short film, I was asked to create assets for an AR social media platform and and a near-future dating app.

Challenge
In order to sell this near-future world, the character needed an AR social media platform for discovering downloadable flavour substrates and a dating app. Both needed to be new concepts but quickly recognisable to an audience in the present day. The AR platform needed to be usable by the VFX team and the dating app needed to be usable by the actor.

Solutions

Flavor Share

After researching contemporary social media platforms like Instagram and Reddit, I created a simple interface made to exist in 3D space in layers that uses simple visual language reminiscent of today’s social medias, with a near-future twist that showcases the 3D flavour substrate technology created for this film and a future where that technology is open-source.

Catch

After researching contemporary dating apps like Bumble, Raya, and Tinder, I created a clean interface in illustrator and prototyped in Invision, so that it could be easily swiped through on camera and zoomed in as needed for the scene.
